Barbara Ann Newport

Mrs. Barbara Ann (Ritter) Newport, age 84, of Gamaliel, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Monday, August 14, 2023 at Signature Healthcare of Monroe County.  She was born in Monroe County, on April 14, 1939, a daughter of the late Levie Ancil and Hazel B. (Burks) Ritter.  She graduated from Gamaliel High School, and worked at various banks, before becoming the first Occupational Tax Administrator for Monroe County, she was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church.  Ann enjoyed going to auctions, quilting, and playing the slots at Casinos.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Newport of Gamaliel; three grandchildren, Michael Newport and wife Jessica of Alvaton, Tiffany Massingale and husband Aaron of Adolphus, and Christopher Newport and wife Kristen of Glasgow. Three great-grandchildren, Corbin Ray Massingale, Kenzlee Paige Massingale, and Charles Waylon Newport and one on the way; a sister-in-law, Jean Phillips of Spring, Texas, along with a special friend, Mrs. Shirley Taylor of Gamaliel also survives.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Mitchell Newport, one son, Kerry Newport, and three sisters; Margie Proffitt, Ruth Copass, and Jean Ritter.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Gamaliel Cemetery, with interment to follow. Bro. Ronnie Turner will officiate the service. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gamaliel Cemetery, Gamaliel Volunteer Fire Department, or St. Jude Children's Hospital in memory of Barbara Ann Newport.
