Carol Kathryn Comer

Carol Kathryn Comer, 74, formerly of Gamaliel, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, in Clearwater, Florida.

Carol was born at the Gamaliel Clinic on September 5, 1951, to the late O.E. Comer Jr. and Gerlena “Gerri” Thomas Comer.

Carol attended Western Kentucky University graduated from the University of Florida in Gainesville with a degree in journalism. She pursued her passion for writing by working as a staff writer for the Fort Myers News-Press and the Miami Herald.

Carol had a love for travel and experienced many different countries throughout her life. She also lived in Guatemala before eventually returning to Nashville, Tennessee.

Those who knew Carol will remember her for her adventurous spirit, big smile, and the warm way she greeted people with her familiar, “Hi! How are you doing?”

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her grandparents, OE Comer Sr and Lillian Brooks Comer, John and Louella Thomas, and her brother, Larry Comer.

She is survived by her daughter, Kate Comer; her longtime caretaker Shanti Box; and several cousins and extended family members.

A private family burial will take place in the Gamaliel Cemetery.
