Charles William Gray

Obituary Charles William (Bill) Gray died at his home in the presence of his loving family in Scottsville, KY, on Monday, Oct. 12, at the age of 88. Bill is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Dorothy England Gray, his children, Rita Doss, of Glasgow, Beth Gray Edwardson, and Chuck Gray, of Scottsville. His grandchildren, Gabe Doss of Glasgow, and Olivia and Tori Edwardson, Louisville, also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles William Gray and Alice Landrum Gray, his brother, James Gray, sister, Neida Costavile, and niece, Penny Ames. Bill was born on December 2, 1926, to Will and Alice on a farm near Fountain Run, KY. After serving in WW II and completing his tour in Japan, he returned to Fountain Run High School completing his education through the GI Bill. There he met and married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy, and remained a devoted and loving husband until his death. Bill was a bookkeeper who was dedicated to his work as well as his farming. His love of family was demonstrated by his warmth, his encouragement, his wit, and his generosity for his immediate as well as his extended family. Bill became a Christian in early years, and quietly practiced his faith through the way he lived his life and shared his compassion for others. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17, 1 pm - 8 pm, and Sunday, Oct. 18, 7:30 am until the funeral service at 1 pm, at Strode's Funeral Home in Scottsville with burial at Fountain Run Cemetery.
