Dixie (Turner) Abbitt

Mrs. Dixie (Turner) Abbitt, age 80, of Gamaliel, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at her home. Dixie was born in Mud Lick on October 30, 1945, a daughter of the late Clyde and Ova Cross Turner. She was a 1965 graduate of Lois Glynn Beauty School and worked at Gamaliel Beauty Shop for 53 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star and New Salem Baptist Church. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchild, enjoyed painting and refurbishing homes, reading, gardening, bird watching and was known for her delicious fried pies.

She is survived by her daughter Dr. Mary Ann (Abbitt) Fye and fiancée Nathan Welch; three grandchildren Erin Jessie and husband Jordan, Ashley Fye (Thomas Holmes) and Ava Turner; one great grandchild August Ronald Jessie; one brother, Richard Turner and wife Brenda, three sisters; Cecile Boyles, Carol Johnson and husband Glenn, Kay Hutchison and husband Ray, Sisters-in law, Barbara Turner, Charlotte Pannell and husband Bill and Norma Abbitt. A host of nieces, nephews, and extended family also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald “Ronnie” Abbitt, two brothers, Clyde Travis Turner and Alfred Turner; one sister Margaret Geralds; four brothers-in-law, Milton “Burr” Boyles, Jimmy Ross Geralds, Jerry Abbitt and Lavonne “Buddy” Abbitt; two sisters-in-law Virginia Nell Turner and Sondra (Abbitt) May; father-in-law and mother-in-law Earl and Doris Abbitt.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Bartley & Sons Gamaliel Chapel, with burial to follow in Gamaliel Cemetery. Bro. Rondal Turner will officiate the services.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Wednesday morning after 7:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Bartley & Sons Gamaliel Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gamaliel Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Donnie Peden, Dustin Peden, Drew Peden, Ben Hutchison, Brad Turner and Scott Turner.

Honorary Pallbearers: Alvin Deckard, Morgan Deckard, Jordan Deckard, John Harlin, Johnny Dale Proffitt and Scott Hutchison.
