Gary E. Compton

Mr. Gary Edward Compton, age 73, of Gamaliel, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023, at the Monroe County Medical Center.  Gary was born in Livingston, Tennessee on June 26, 1950, a son of the late Paul Houston Compton and the late Christine (Cook) Rogers.  He graduated from Tompkinsville High School, Class of 1968, and went on to attend Western Kentucky University.  Gary was General Manager of Bowling Green Auto Auction and owned and operated Compton Auto Sales for several years before venturing into the restaurant business, with The Dairy Bar in Gamaliel, Kentucky, and Bob’s House in Tompkinsville.  He was a member of the Tompkinsville Masonic Lodge, and an honorary member of the H.A.M. Henderson Lodge as well.

He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Janice (Clarkson) Compton, of Gamaliel, one daughter, Tracy Annette Downing (Phil) of Bowling Green, one son, Cody Compton and wife Rachel, of Gamaliel, a brother, Barry Paul Compton (Karen) of Tompkinsville; three grandchildren, Ty Downing and wife Addie, Mellie Jae Compton, and Wakes Edward Compton, along with one great-grandchild, Elaina Pearl Downing also survives.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home, with burial to follow in The Donaldson Cemetery in Clay County, Tennessee. Bro. Ronnie Turner, Bro. Gary Emberton and Jeff Geralds will officiate the services.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 19, 2023, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Sunday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m.

Masonic Rites will be performed at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2023.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hosparus of Barren River, or Monroe County Backpack Program in memory of Gary.
