Gary "Bounce" Hurd

Mr. Gary "Bounce" Hurd, age 72, of Hestand, Kentucky passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023 at his home. He was born in Monroe County on September 11, 1950, a son of the late Grover and Polly (Copas) Hurd. He attended Tompkinsville High School, and he started working for Warner Baxter at the age of nineteen running a bulldozer. He worked for the Baxter's until 1994, when he went into business for himself. He dedicated fifty-four years of doing what he did best. He enjoyed riding four wheelers and horses. He attended the Tompkinsville Church of Christ

He is survived by his companion of twenty-nine years, Sherri Proffitt, one brother James Hurd of Winchester, Kentucky, one nephew, Chris Hurd and wife Valerie of Richmond, Kentucky, and one step granddaughter, Bree-Ann McClendon of Hestand, Kentucky.

In addition to his parents Grover and Polly (Copas) Hurd, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Comer and Inez Hurd and Oscar and Minnie Copas, and his sister-in-law, Bonnie Hurd.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023 at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Monroe County Memorial Lawn. MacShane Bartley will officiate the services.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 27, 2023 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Monday morning, after 7:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Monroe County Backpack Program in Memory of Gary.
