Mr. James Jr. Thompson, age 82, of Tompkinsville, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Monroe County Medical Center, surrounded by his family. James was born in Hestand, Kentucky on March 31, 1942, a son of the late J.C. and Clara (Jackson) Thompson. He married Linda Faye Myatt, who preceded him in death on September 25, 2014. James was an SKF retiree after thirty-four years and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Germany Church of Christ and had been attending Rock Springs Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Spears) Thompson, two sons, Tony Thompson and wife Charoletta and Phillip Thompson and companion Christie, all of Mt. Hermon, one daughter, Kristie Simpson and husband Bow, of Tompkinsville, two stepdaughters, Caryl Eads and husband Gary, and Melissia Foster and husband Richard of Celina. Two sisters, Connie Carter and husband Steve, and Mary Frances Monday and husband Jerry, two brothers, Danny Joe Thompson, and wife Betty, Jerry Frank Thompson and wife Ann all of Tompkinsville, four grandchildren, Ryan, P.J., Maddie, Autumn, special great-grandchildren, Graycie, Deacon, Lemon, Carsen, Kendra and Joseph, along with one aunt, Dollie Hunter and one uncle, Wiley Thompson also survives.
In addition to his parents, J.C. and Clara Thompson, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Myatt Thompson, stepfather, Jess Frank Thompson, three brothers, Jessie Boyd, Gary Thomas, and Ralph Edward Thompson, and two sisters, Anna Runell Thompson, and Sue Ellston.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2024, from Bartley & Sons Funeral Home with burial to follow in Harlans Crossroads Cemetery. Brett Crowe and Jim Blankenship will officiate the service.
The visitation will be held on Saturday afternoon from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Sunday after 8:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harlan’s Crossroads or Bailey Cemetery.
