Mrs. Maggie Frances (Deckard) Green Jones, age 88, of Gamaliel, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025, at the Monroe County Medical Center. Maggie was born on January 18, 1937, in the Cropper Ridge Community, a daughter of the late Oakley and Annie Lee (Ford) Deckard. She married W. G. Green, Jr. on November 4, 1953, he preceded her in death on December 15, 1979. On April 20, 2003, she married Willie Harold Jones, and he preceded her in death on August 28, 2018. Maggie worked at Stitches for several years, along with Taylor’s General Store and various other stores in Gamaliel throughout the years. She was a devout member of Gamaliel Church of Christ, and enjoyed listening to music, and dancing, traveling to the Smoky Mountains, and spending time with her friends at City Hall.
She is survived by her daughters, Anna Mae Brown of Gamaliel, and Mary Frances Guffey and husband Rick of Simpsonville, Kentucky, and one son, Michael Steven Green, of Gamaliel. Two sisters, Jessie (Deckard) Netherton, Gamaliel, and Margie (Deckard) Clarkson of Springville, Tennessee, ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, fifteen great-great grandchildren with one more on the way. Several nieces, nephews, along with a host of extended family also survives.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, Willie Joe Green, one daughter, Fannie Mae (Green) Turner, two brothers, Ronnie Deckard, and Kenneth Deckard, and one sister, Ruby Lee (Deckard) Pedigo.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Bartley & Sons Gamaliel Chapel with burial to follow in the Gamaliel Cemetery, Hershel Cyphers will officiate the services.
Visitation will be held on Friday, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, after 8:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. at Bartley & Sons Gamaliel Chapel.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Gamaliel Cemetery in honor of Maggie.
