Mrs. Martha Rachel “Kitty” (Cook) Carder, age 83, of Gamaliel, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Monroe County Medical Center. Kitty was born in Shelby, North Carolina on March 15, 1943, and was a daughter of the late Howard Theodore and Vernease (Grigg) Cook. She married William Harlan Carder on August 20, 1961, and he preceded her in death on January 19, 2022. She and her family owned and operated the S. D. Harlin Company, and she was an employee of Stitches, Inc. for several years and retired from Aflac. Kitty was a member of the Gamaliel Baptist Church, and Gamaliel Homemakers. Her number one hobby was “Chasing her Grandkids,” she was there to support and cheer them on. She enjoyed traveling and reading in her downtime.
She is survived by one daughter, Susan Leanna Allen and husband Keith of Lafayette, Tennessee; one son, William H. “Little Bill” Carder of Gamaliel, three grandchildren, Luci McKenna Stanley and husband Collin of Martin, Tennessee, Kade Carder Allen of Lafayette, and Callie Marie Carder of Nashville, three sisters, Juanita Horton Scott (Hollis) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Marjorie Ray Abbott (Kevin), of Big Canoe, Georgia, and Sheila Vernease Robertson (Mike), of Wendell, North Carolina, along with a host of nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews, also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Harlan “Billy” Carder, one sister, Jeanette Lee Childers, and one brother, Edward Theodore Cook.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Bartley & Sons Gamaliel Chapel, with burial to follow in Gamaliel Cemetery. Brothers Danny Pace and Jerry Anderson will officiate the services.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 17, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Saturday morning after 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Bartley & Sons Gamaliel Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gamaliel Baptist Church or to the Gamaliel Cemetery in memory of Mrs. Kitty.
