Ollis Proffitt

Obituary Ollis Proffitt, 91, of Tompkinsville, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at the Franklin Simpson Nursing & Rehab in Franklin, KY. He was born April 25, 1923 in Monroe County, KY to the late Amos Proffitt and Zadie Arterburn Proffitt. He was a retired farmer, a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church and a WWII Army Veteran. He was united in marriage on June 19, 1950 to Marjorie Ritter who preceded him in death on November 19, 1998. He is survived by one daughter: Sherrie Proffitt of Hestand, three sons: G.Pat Proffitt and wife Amy of Burkesville, Joe K. Proffitt and wife Barbara of Lafayette, TN, Brian Proffitt of Glasgow, 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by three brothers: Lynn, Norvell and Ancil Proffitt, three sisters: Emma Simpson, Zelma Jackson and Eddith Brandon and one grandson: Jeremy Star McClendon. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 20 at 1:00 PM at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville with burial to follow in the Gamaliel Cemetery in Gamaliel. Military rites will be performed at graveside by DAV Chapter 20 of Glasgow. Visitation will be after 3:00 PM on Thursday and after 7:30 AM on Friday at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville.
