Samuel Oscar Holder

Mr. Samuel Oscar Holder, age 78 of the Bugtussle Community, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at Monroe County Medical Center surrounded by his family.  Sammy was born on August 28, 1943, a son of the late Reavly Davis “R.D.” and Nell (Parkes) Holder.  He married Glenda Bray on March 11, 1972.  Sammie was a lifelong farmer, and collector, he enjoyed yard sales, going to auctions, and collecting rare items.  He was a member and served as a Deacon of New Liberty General Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife of fifty years, Glenda, he is survived by his children; Nancy Holder, Mark Holder (Kim Baskett), and his three grandsons; Clayton, Jon Mark, and Luke Holder, all of Gamaliel. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother; Benny Holder, and one sister; Ruth Holder Chapman.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2022, from Bartley & Sons Gamaliel Chapel with burial to follow in the Akersville Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Friday after 8:00 a.m. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, or to the Akersville Cemetery in memory of Mr. Holder.
