Steven A. Short

Mr. Steven A. Short, age 77, of the Mud Lick Community, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at TJ Samson Community Hospital. Born on July 18, 1946, to the late J. C. Short and Morene Collins Short. Steve attained his High School Diploma while serving in the United States Army, stationed in Washburn, Germany during the Vietnam War.  He worked for International Harvester, before going to work at Belden until the closing, and he retired from The Kentucky State Highway Department. Steve enjoyed making music and singing.  He was a part of several music groups throughout the years, including; James & Steve Short and Friends, The Monroe County Boys, Southern Express, Stateline Bluegrass, The Third Generation Bluegrass, and various others.  He also enjoyed riding four-wheelers, and spending time with and spoiling his nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Steve was a long-time member of the Tompkinsville Church of Christ. 

He is survived by his wife fifty-five years; Margie (Comer) Short, three brothers; Charles Short and wife Carolyn of Glasgow, Ricky Short and wife Debbie of Loxley, Alabama, and Danny Short of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Three sisters; Barbara Cleary and husband Paul of Glasgow, Judy Walker of Glasgow, Jackie Firkins and husband Tim of Louisville, three sisters-in-law; Janice Short of Mud Lick, Anna Murley of Mt. Hermon, and Sherilena Johnson and husband Alan of Austin, Kentucky. Two brothers-in-law; Edsol Comer and wife Marg of Blairsville, Georgia, and Herbert Comer and wife Hannah of Parrish, Florida, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews also survive. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son; Scottie Arlan Short, three brothers; James Short, Wayne Short and wife Phyllis, and Clyde Short, sister; Ruby Chloe Eubank, and two brothers-in-law; Ivan and wife Barbara Comer and Shorty Walker.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Isenberg Cemetery. Neal Mathis and Dale Pollard will be conducting the service. 

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 11, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Monday morning after 8:00 until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Spoonbill Foundation in honor of Gracie James Pitcock and in memory of John Luke Pitcock. 

Pallbearers: Shaun Johnson, Jason Johnson, Samuel Johnson, Chris Comer, Jeff Short, and Darren Clarkson.

Honorary Pallbearers: Bluegrass Musicians, Tompkinsville Church of Christ Family, Neighbors of the Mud Lick Community,  Nieces and Nephews, and Great Nieces and Nephews.
