Velma Netherton Wood

Obituary Velma Netherton Wood Shirley, 91, of Fountain Run, KY passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at North Crest Hospital in Springfield, TN. She was born December 9, 1922 in Monroe County, KY to the late Vinson Netherton and Beulah Pennington Netherton. She was a retired cook for Clay County Nursing Home and a member of Freedom #2 Baptist Church. She was united in marriage in 1988 to J. R. Shirley. She is survived by her husband: J. R. Shirley of Ft. Run, KY, three sons: Roger Wood of Greenbrier, TN, Jackie Ferrell Wood and Billy Wood both of Springfield, TN,four step sons: Jerry Shirley of Scottsville, KY, Steve Shirley of Lafayette, TN, Larry Shirley and Eutre Shirley both of Glasgow, KY, two daughters: Mary Evelyn Brown and Evonna Rose Wood both of Greenbrier, TN, 13 Grandchildren 10 step grandchildren 7 great grandchildren 21 step great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband: James Lovell Wood, one son: Geary Shelton Wood and one brother: Charles James Netherton. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 21 at 1:00 PM at Freedom # 2 Baptist Church with burial to follow in Freedom # 2 Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4:00 PM on Friday and after 7:30 AM on Saturday at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville. Memorials are suggested to the Freedom # 2 Baptist Church.
