Obituary Velma Ruth Adams Hurd, 89, of Gamaliel, passed away Friday, May 27, 2016 at The Palace in Red Boiling Springs, TN.She was born March 23, 1927 in Monroe County, KY to the late Andrew Adams and Nevada Deckard Adams. She was a retired factory worker and a member of Gamaliel Baptist Church. She was united in marriage on October 18, 1946 to Chaston " Chat" Hurd who preceded her in death on June 20, 2007.She is survived by five sons: Jackie Hurd of Decatur, IL, Jerry Hurd and Bobby Hurd both of Lafayette, TN, Danny Hurd of Gamaliel, Mike Hurd of Carthage, one sister: Louise Austin of Decatur, IL, 7 grandchildren, 1 step grandchild and 3 great grand children.In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter: Shirley Jean Williams, two brothers: Ollis Mitchell Adams, James Andrew Adams, two sisters: Doris Elease Adams and Mary Evelyn Hale.Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 31 at 2:00 PM at Strode's Gamaliel Chapel in Gamaliel with burial to follow in the Gamaliel Cemetery.Visitation will be after 2:00 PM on Monday and after 7:30 AM on Tuesday at Strode's Gamaliel Chapel.Memorials are suggested to the Gamaliel Baptist Church. I am Betty Heard Hopkins. My Father was Clyde Heard, brother of Chatt. I remember Velma Ruth when I was a small child. She was such a pretty and sweet person. May all her family be blessed with memories of her love and kindness. My prayers to all of you.
