High Hammer, age 87, of Greenfield, Indiana, formerly of Tompkinsville passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. He was born, on January 9, 1935, one of eight children to Richard T. and Vessie (Ford) Hammer. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He married the love of his life, Floy Marie Strode on November 4, 1958. High was a simple man who enjoyed attending auctions and buying antiques. He and Marie would often travel to visit his Navy comrades and both of their families in Kentucky. High also loved nature and was very proud of his numerous beehives, bird feeders, hummingbird feeders, and vegetable gardens. He worked as a concrete finisher for a few concrete construction companies before joining Midwest Concrete and Pumping in Indianapolis from whom he retired in 2004.

High is survived by his loving wife Marie of 63 ½ years; one son, Mark Anthony; one grandson, Robert Lowell (Hunter Christine) Welter; two great-grandchildren, Harper Jo and Hudson Lowell; one brother, Travler Hammer; and many nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Richard High Hammer in 2000; two sisters, Vida Roth & Tonnie Giddings; four brothers, Calvin, Cass, Charles, and Jerry Hammer.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, July 15, 2022, at noon at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home with burial next to his son Rick in the Monroe County Memorial Lawn.

The visitation will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. until 12 noon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 911 East 86th Street, Ste. #100, Indianapolis, IN 46240, or can be made at the funeral home.
